The The Glimmering team is a group of highly skilled (and fun) people with a history of notable achievements. Our founders have led large venture-backed tech companies. Our tech team has deep experience in blockchain technology. Our artists have drawn concert posters for major rock bands that you’ve probably seen live, and their artwork is hanging in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. Our game designers have built world-renowned tabletop games for major publishers for more than 22 years. If you’re a big tabletop gamer, odds are you have played the games they’ve designed many times. Most importantly, they’re all great humans. The Glimmering’s first play-on-chain game is in the early stages of development, so the UX and UI are not available to the public – yet. That said, you can expect the gameplay to happen the way it does now, at a table in person or virtually via Zoom.

NFT holders will play with The Glimmering certified game masters who lead the gameplay. All player character (PC) game outcomes will be logged on the chain as the adventure concludes for that play session. The game outcomes not only improve your PC NFTs abilities, but the game outcomes will also start to morph that NFT art itself.

What we’ve seen with the explosion of NFTs is the ability for creators to receive real compensation and rewards by using the blockchain. NFTs changed two major challenges with artists earning a living: first, there is a direct relationship between the collector and the artists since they no longer have to wait for an art dealer to showcase their work and second, with NFTs, artists can receive a royalty every time the art sells vs. only receiving payment once.

Within the TTRPG space there are several creator groups who aren’t receiving their fair value: Game Masters, Content Creators, Artists, and even the Players.

• For Game Masters, you will take part in the fair share of the rewards of the game outcomes: gold and loot.

• For Content Creators & Artists, to play on-chain, Adventures will need to be chosen. Content played on-chain will be paid upfront and they receive a royalty when a PC and game module NFTs are minted.

• For Players, you will take part in the fair share of the rewards of the game outcomes: gold and loot.

Additionally, on-chain gameplay allows all contributors to certify their work. Have you actually completed a quest or Adventure? Is your PC really level 12?

This is your chance to be a pioneer in the world of TTRPGs – and our 10,000+ genesis NFTs are just the beginning. After the initial mint, you’ll receive your starter gear loot NFTs via airdrop. There will also be future NFTs related to the lore of the The Glimmering world, the characters within it, and specific gameplay-related items that we will detail in the future.

Beyond bringing a single tabletop roleplaying game (TTRPG) on-chain, The Glimmering is developing an industry-standard protocol that all TTRPG designers and artists can build up. Qualifying projects will receive seed funding from the The Glimmering treasury. Our genesis holders will get first access to all of those projects.

There will be a pre-sale list. To allow people to secure spots, we’re doing something called Roll2Mint. The Roll2Mint process will help us identify and reward people who care and believe in what we’re building. It will also prevent allowlist “hustle” and burn out. We want to encourage active involvement while discouraging “Discord grinding.” We care for your mental health. Here are some ways to use Roll2Mint. Our community team will add in many more as the project progresses.

• Play quick one-shot adventures presented by The Glimmering with Game Masters in our community (i.e. play in our world and test out our adventure content).

• Interact with our community in Discord. Add value to the discussion. Make friends.

• Come together with other adventurers in the Discord and roll digital dice to slay dragons and other monsters that pop up.

• Tell test character backstories on Twitter to share your creative imagination and turn others on to the project.

When we release “play-on-chain,” anyone can mint a non-collector’s-item NFT (these are not the 1-of-1s in the genesis collection). It will be cool art, but it won’t be a 1-of-1 like the genesis NFTs. Our mission is to grow a world where hundreds of thousands (and, eventually, millions) of people experience the community of roleplaying adventures.

Genesis NFT player characters will also get access to all The Glimmering collectible artwork and early access to every other project built on the protocol.

Not at all. If NFTs aren’t your bag, that’s fine. We want all TTRPG players to have access to the world we’re creating.

The Glimmering is releasing one-shots and modules that you can play off-chain anytime, no NFTs required. Our game is 5e compatible so everyone can play it where and how they like. Use one of your favorite existing characters, spin up a new character on paper or on D&D 5e digital character builder, jump in the world, and have fun.

The Glimmering is a well-funded company, and no member of the team is pulling money from the mint. 100% of mint funds from genesis and future mints will go to the The Glimmering treasury, as will all royalties associated with secondary market sales. We will use those funds to continue to build the company, the protocol, our world, and our community.

We’re planning to build on the Polygon blockchain. Here’s why:

1. We want to prove fair mint and transparency in all that we do. The Glimmering player character data is on-chain, which is not common across all NFT protocols. Verifiable randomness is crucial to avoiding unintended effects (like tripling gas prices), which could occur with this level of on-chain data. We don’t want to compromise the experience we bring to you.

2. The Glimmering is not a “mint once” project. All adventure quests and gameplay outcomes put data back on your PC and cost gas. Doing this on ETH would prevent people from actually playing the game. Imagine having to pay $100-300 just to log PC outcomes or collect the loot you earned after you slay the dragon? That wouldn’t be fair and most never want to do that.

As you know, TTRPGs are by default played IRL at a table (or virtually) with a set of dice. Before we plan for metaverse play, we must first nail the experience for tabletop gameplay. That’s the immediate focus for phase two of the project when on-chain gameplay is released.

While we’re not currently working on a metaverse version of gameplay, we certainly intend to. We’ve got some pretty wild visions of players in the metaverse sitting around a digital table, rolling digital dice, wearing a 3D version of the PC NFT as their identity. It will be critical to partner with metaverse platforms that are aligned with our values and mission. We’ll pursue those relationships carefully.

Absolutely. People purchase our products to play in the worlds we create, collect player character artwork, and enjoy a type of game that has been in existence for more than 50 years. In our business model, there are no instances, incentives, or requirements for new purchasers to enter the game to provide exit value for previous entrants. We are building a company, game, and tech protocol that is intended to last.

Some may find that others place a high value on their player characters and wish to sell them. This is exactly similar to any other collectibles, be it trading cards, or players selling their World of Warcraft and other MMO video game accounts to people eager to play with more advanced characters and equipment.

No doubt that Bitcoin and Ethereum (in their current state) consume a lot of energy. But, that is not true for all blockchains. In fact, Polygon consumes just .000876 terrawatt hours of energy per year. That is equal to the energy consumption of 72 homes and a fraction of 1% of the energy consumed by Facebook. (source)

You will need to submit your Polygon public wallet address. There are different steps for those who already have a supporting Polygon wallet, and those who do not. We typically recommend MetaMask, although other wallets are acceptable. You want to be sure the wallet supports Matic token.

I already have a MetaMask wallet.

• Add “Polygon Mainnet” as a network. The easiest way to do this is to visit www.polygonscan.com, scroll to the bottom of the page, and find the “Add Polygon Network” button. You can also check out our step-by-step guide here.

• Switch networks to “Polygon Mainnet”.

• Copy your Account Address (right under your account name, top middle of MetaMask)

• You’re done!

I don’t have a MetaMask wallet.

I don’t want to use MetaMask, can I use something else?

• Definitely, any wallet which supports Polygon and can be connected through WalletConnect will work. Please follow instructions on the wallet’s website, and reach out to us if you need additional help.
